In 2011 Susan and her business partner Heather opened the breakfast club, etc in Lake Placid, NY in the heart of the Adirondack mountains. They were friends and coworkers who recognized that Lake Placid needed something. Great breakfast after 10am. No one was offering breakfast all day, and no one was offering from scratch, fill you up breakfast with real maple syrup and homemade everything. With their hand crafted Bloody Marys, Mimosas and creative cocktails, the idea of the BC was about more than just a quick bite to start the day. They wanted to focus on the whole breakfast experience…homemade food, signature drinks, coffee and a friendly, fun and attentive staff. After a lot of hard work and long days the breakfast club, etc has now become the place to go for breakfast in Lake Placid.
Susan and Heather both ended up in the Lake Placid for different reasons. But both fell into the classic trap of the Adirondacks where they came to visit and forgot to leave. Susan is from NYC and her family spent every summer while she was growing up at their lake house in the Adirondacks. In 2009 Susan decided to come up for the whole summer again and that was it. She found music friends and theater friends, she found her tribe and decided to stay. Heather was brought to the area to work in television production for The Good Will Games and The Great Outdoor Games. She fell in love with Lake Placid, the mountains and the people and decided to make it her home. Once Susan and Heather met and started talking about opening the kind of breakfast place where they would love to eat, it was only a matter of time before they left their mark on the town. They are both active members of the community, the Lake Placid Business Association and take a lot of pride in their town. The last ten years have seen a lot of changes to Lake Placid, especially in the restaurant industry and Susan and Heather are proud to have been a part of that incredible growth and creativity and change.
By 2016 the BC etc was outgrowing its original space. When a bigger restaurant with a lake view became available Susan and Heather jumped at opportunity to expand and moved to their current location across from the Palace Theater. We had always wanted an artisan espresso bar to be a part of the BC etc, but the original location was just too small. With the move our dream of The BC Coffee Co became a reality.
In 2017 Susan and her husband Rob decided they wanted to spend most of their time in the Florida Keys and opened the breakfast club, too in Old Town Key West. They spend winters in Key West and Summers in Lake Placid.
At the breakfast club, etc we take real pride in making home made breakfast from scratch. Our concept has always been to create food that is familiar yet expands the expectations of what breakfast can be. Our food is guaranteed to fill you up. We want to make sure you have all the energy you need for your day in the mountains!
After all, breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
